Members of the 1st Cavalry Division Association cut the ribbon on the Crossed Sabers Gift Shop in Copperas Cove. Though the gift shop has been open for two years in Copperas Cove, it joined the city's Chamber of Commerce Wednesday.

COPPERAS COVE — Though it has been open since before Thanksgiving in 2021, the Crossed Sabers Gift Shop, which used to be located at the 1st Cavalry Division museum on Fort Cavazos, joined the Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce Wednesday morning.
Before members of the 1st Cavalry Division Association cut a ribbon in front of the shop at 302 N. Main St. in Copperas Cove, Beth Galick, the president of the Cove Chamber, said she did not know the gift shop was at the location. It is inside the same former house that holds the 1st Cavalry Division Association.
“It’s nice to belong somewhere,” said retired Lt. Col. Rich Kaye, president of the 1st Cavalry Division Association. “For the longest amount of time, we coexisted with the First Cavalry Division Museum.”
Once it was announced that the Mounted Warfare Museum would be built, the division museum shut down and the gift shop relocated to Copperas Cove in a matter of weeks.
All profits from the museum are used to support 1st Cavalry Division Association events or for scholarships, according to retired 1st Sgt. Dara Wydler, executive director of the association.
Crossed Sabers Gift Shop is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Beginning Nov. 15, the hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays to accommodate holiday shopping.
